How to Properly Clean Your Sex Toys – A Guide to Safe, Hygienic Pleasure

Taking care and cleaning your sex toys is just as important as choosing the right one. Proper cleaning not only extends the life of your toy but also protects your body from harmful bacteria and infections. Whether you're using a vibrator, dildo, anal plug, or stroker, maintaining good hygiene is essential for safe and enjoyable pleasure.

1. Know Your Material

Different materials require different cleaning methods. Most high-quality sex toys are made from body-safe, non-porous materials like medical-grade silicone, glass, stainless steel, or ABS plastic. These are the easiest to clean and sanitize. Porous materials like jelly rubber, cyberskin, or TPE are more difficult to clean thoroughly and may harbor bacteria, so extra care is needed—or better yet, opt for higher-quality alternatives.

2. Cleaning Basics

After every use, clean your sex toy with warm water and mild, unscented soap or a specialized sex toy cleaner. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove any residue. For toys that are waterproof, you can wash them under running water. For non-waterproof or battery-powered toys, be cautious to keep electrical parts dry—use a damp cloth for the exterior.

3. Deep Cleaning Options

For non-porous, non-electronic toys, a deeper clean can be done by boiling them for 3–5 minutes (silicone, stainless steel, or borosilicate glass only) or using a 10% bleach solution (rinse well afterward). Never boil or soak toys with motors or electronics.

4. Drying and Storing after cleaning your sex toys

After cleaning your sex toys, pat your toy dry with a clean, lint-free cloth and let it air-dry completely. Store it in a breathable storage bag or a designated container to keep it clean and dust-free. Avoid letting toys made of different materials touch, as some can react with each other over time.

5. Use Lube Wisely

Always match your lube to your toy material. Use water-based lube for all toys, especially silicone ones, to avoid damaging the surface. Silicone lubes can degrade silicone toys over time.

Treat your toys with care, and they’ll take care of your pleasure. Keeping them clean is a simple step toward safer, more satisfying play—every time.

Lubricants – The Unsung Hero of Pleasure

Lubricants, or lubes, are one of the most essential and versatile products in any intimate routine. Whether you’re enjoying solo play, partnered sex, or experimenting with toys, a good lube enhances comfort, intensifies sensation, and reduces friction for a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

There are several types of lubricants, each designed to suit different needs and preferences:

1. Water-Based

Water-based lubes are the most common and versatile. They’re compatible with all sex toys and condoms, easy to clean, and feel light and natural. Perfect for everyday use, they're ideal for both vaginal and anal play. However, they may dry out faster than other types and may require reapplication during longer sessions.

2. Silicone-Based

Silicone lubes are long-lasting, silky-smooth, and waterproof—making them perfect for shower or bath play. They don’t absorb into the skin as quickly, so they stay slick for much longer. Silicone lubricants are great for anal sex or extended sessions but are not recommended with silicone toys, as they can degrade the material over time.

3. Oil-Based

Oil-based lubes offer a rich, creamy texture that many find luxurious for external use or sensual massage. However, they are not compatible with latex condoms and can be harder to clean up. They're best used for manual play or external stimulation.

Why Use Lube?

Using lubricant reduces the risk of irritation, enhances sensation, and allows you to explore more freely—whether it's trying a new toy, experimenting with positions, or indulging in anal play. Lube is especially important for people experiencing dryness due to stress, menopause, or medication. It’s not just about function—it’s about maximizing pleasure.

Choosing the Right Lube

Always choose a body-safe, paraben-free, and glycerin-free formula if you’re sensitive. Many lubes are now made with organic or vegan ingredients, and some even include added benefits like warming or cooling sensations, or ingredients that support vaginal health.
